Current Projects and InitiativesA National LeaderTUN, in partnership with the Center for Disease Control (CDC), is a national leader in research for understanding the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences on children who are involved with the juvenile offender system. TUN has contracted with the Pierce County Juvenile Court to facilitate a MacArthur Foundation grant. It supports communication and action in the coordination of juvenile courts and state-based Child Protective Services (CPS) for youths who are in involved in both systems. Washington is only one of nine states that have receive MacArthur Foundation grants. Statewide ConferencesTo further educate those who work with at-risk teens, TUN conducted the first Community Learning Conference: Hurt to Hope: Moving Children Past Trauma that focused on easing the impact of ACEs on youth. Later, Spokane County followed suit with its own conference. And in 2009, Chelan-Douglas Counties will conduct the conference. |
