Our Focus

TUN focuses on reducing three problem behaviors:

       1. Youth violence
       2. Child abuse
       3. Domestic Violence

As a result, Pierce County has benefited in the following ways since 2001:

  • Filings for juvenile offenses are below the state average
and have declined by 22 percent

  • Convictions for juvenile offenses are below the state rate
    and have declined 31 percent

  • Out-of-home placement for children in Pierce County are
below the state average and have declined 7 percent

TUN efforts have accomplished the goals set by the state legislature and assisted in achieving rates below the state averages in:

• Hospitalization of children for accidental injury
Out of home placements of children (Foster care)
• Termination of parental rights
• Suicide attempts by youth
• Arrests of children and adolescents for alcohol and drug offenses

Working in partnership to solve problems in the county, we build on existing community strengths and assets. This uses the principles of performance evaluation and family support to achieve positive results. TUN offers:

  • Strategic focus on achieving positive results for local,
    prioritized child and family problems.

  • Collaborative community leadership in planning, leveraging resources
    and sustaining efforts.

  • Encouraging innovation, and learning from changing conditions and experiences.

  • Careful attention to measured “risks” and results-based decisions.

TUN partners to improve our community and engage the broad diversity of children, youth, and families.
