Building Resources TUN works with the Pierce County Funders Group to develop a uniform funding process to achieve an “outcome-based evaluation” of human services.Together, the network and local resources are building a Learn > Manage > Improve culture. The mechanism enables the court to base its decision-making process, policy changes and implementation of services on outcome data. Thus, the JAC (?) can work more effectively. As a result of the work done by TUN, the Washington State Legislature approved decatigorization of the Consolidated Juvenile Services (CJS) funding. Services, therefore, have improved to meet the needs of youth on probation and in detention. For example, the Juvenile Court has implemented “trauma-focused cognitive behavior therapy services” for youths who have suffered multiple incidents as recognized by the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study. (See below for more information about the ACE study.) This allows teens at risk for conducting crimes and other anti-social behavior to receive training to think and understand their actions. This process reduces the rates of recidivism among those who are likely to re-offend. Walla Walla and Whatcom Counties in Washington have requested that TUN assist them in the implementation of similar programs in their areas. |
